At a glance
A flat, trust-based work culture with strong welfare and English-friendly workplaces, entered mainly through salary- and shortage-based schemes — and gated in daily life by a single personal registration number.
Best for
Salaried professionals above the scheme thresholds, shortage-occupation specialists, and researchers.
Who this may not suit
People without a job offer at or above the pay limit — there is no general job-seeking route, and the housing market in Copenhagen assumes you already have a CPR number.

Key trade-offs
- Almost nothing works without a CPR number — banking, healthcare, tenancy and even a phone contract wait on it.
- Income tax is high, and the headline salary tells you little until you model the deductions.
- Housing in and around Copenhagen is tight, and waiting lists favour people already registered.
First steps
- 1 Check whether your occupation is on the current Positive List before assuming the pay-limit route.
- 2 Apply for the CPR number the week you arrive — everything else queues behind it.
- 3 Set up MitID once you have the CPR — it is the key to public and banking services.
- 4 Register with a doctor to activate healthcare access.
