How are the USD amounts calculated?
From the city's own-currency figure, converted at the exchange rate in our weekly FX snapshot rather than a rate frozen at the time the estimate was written. A currency that has moved 20% since then shows the move.
Can I rely on this to set a salary or a relocation budget?
Treat it as a first pass. Rent inside one city varies more between neighbourhoods than many cities vary between each other, and the figures here are city-level midpoints. Once a city is on your shortlist, price actual listings in the specific districts you would live in.
