Bahrain has no dedicated AI law in force. The Shura Council approved a proposed AI law in April 2024, with penalties for misuse, and it has since been under review in the legislative process; it had not been enacted when this page was written. Until it is, AI systems fall under existing laws — above all the Personal Data Protection Law for any processing of personal data, together with consumer protection, cybercrime and sector rules such as the Central Bank of Bahrain's rulebook for financial firms.
- No dedicated AI law is in force; a proposed law approved by the Shura Council in 2024 is still under review.
- AI that processes personal data must comply with the Personal Data Protection Law.
- Financial firms also follow the Central Bank of Bahrain's rules.
- Personal Data Protection Authority
Personal Data Protection Authority: the supervisor of the Personal Data Protection Law.
- Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB)
Central Bank of Bahrain: the single regulator of banks, insurers and other financial firms.
