As an EU member, Austria applies the EU AI Act (Regulation 2024/1689). Its bans on prohibited practices and the rules for general-purpose AI models already apply, and the Article 50 transparency duties — telling people they are dealing with AI and marking AI-generated content — took effect on 2 August 2026. The Digital Omnibus on AI deferred most high-risk obligations, to 2 December 2027 for standalone systems and 2 August 2028 for AI built into regulated products. The AI Service Desk at the regulator RTR answers questions on the Act.
