Urumqi
City Overview
Urumqi is the capital of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region and one of the largest cities in the Northwest, a core hub of the Silk Road Economic Belt and a key point on the Eurasian Land Bridge — "the city farthest from any ocean." Multi-ethnic (Uyghur, Han, Kazakh and more), it is famed for the International Grand Bazaar and Xinjiang cuisine (polo rice, kebabs, naan).
