Coimbra is Portugal’s oldest university city — the University of Coimbra (founded 1290, World Heritage) makes it a thousand-year academic and medical center, and it was once Portugal’s capital. A hill city on the Mondego with a distinctive fado and student-robe tradition, with rising life-sciences and biopharma.
