Baoding, in central Hebei at the heart of the Jing-Jin-Ji region, is a historic city (the Zhili Viceroy’s Yamen, the Ancient Lotus Pond) and a close neighbor of Xiong’an New Area. New energy (Great Wall Motors HQ, Yingli solar) and equipment manufacturing stand out, with many universities. Cost of living and housing are low; ~40 min by HSR from Beijing, it absorbs functions relocated from the capital as a key node near the capital.
