As an EU member, Germany is governed by the EU AI Act (Regulation 2024/1689), a risk-based law applied across the bloc. It entered into force in August 2024 and applies in phases: bans on certain practices and AI-literacy duties from February 2025, general-purpose AI model obligations from August 2025, and most high-risk-system rules from August 2026/2027. National authorities oversee enforcement in Germany.
