Shijiazhuang is Hebei’s capital and a key node of the Jing-Jin-Ji region, a young provincial capital that grew from a rail junction. It has a strong pharmaceutical (e.g. NCPC) and textile base; ~1 h by HSR from Beijing, it absorbs spillover from the capital. Cost of living and housing are low; the North China Plain is flat, with winter central heating.
