Tangshan
City Overview
Tangshan, in eastern Hebei on the Bohai Bay, is a cradle of China’s modern industry (China’s first mechanized coal mine, first railway and first cement were born here) and has long led China’s cities in steel output. It rose from the 1976 earthquake. Caofeidian Port and port-side heavy/chemical industry are strong; cost of living and housing are low. It is the economic center of eastern Hebei and a key Jing-Jin-Ji industrial city.
